Gifts From Our Fathers

Good fathers on Earth like our Father above
Both give us gifts to show us their love.

They both give us labors for which we do toil
To make sure, alone, these gifts do not spoil.

Sometimes these labors seem to be in vain,
For they take a long time and seem hard to obtain.

Good fathers on Earth and our Father on high
Always know best though we can’t always see why.

We may ask them for gifts we want although,
Even with labor, the answer is no!

It may be to keep us from unforeseen mayhem,
For which when we realize, we surely will thank them.

We may ask for gifts we do dearly need,
But sometimes the answer’s not given with speed.

We must have patience and never fret,
For the answer may be just simply not yet.

And like good fathers on Earth and our Father above,
When the answer is yes, we must thank them with love.
