Take A Seat: The Greensboro Four

They just wanted coffee.
They just wanted to sit.
They just wanted someone
To have to admit,
That they should be treated
Like others being served,
That they should share
In what everyone deserves.

But they were told,
Time and time again,
That those seats were reserved
For more deserving men.
But day after day,
They came back to try
To sit at the counter
And to diversify

Until one day,
Management finally gave in
And let change come around
And finally begin.

It doesn’t take grand movements
To start changing a course.
Just one act of courage
Can be a strong driving force.

She was tired from work
And just wanted to sit
Without walking far back
When there was a front place to fit.

Sometimes standing up
Isn’t our only elective.
Sometimes sitting down
Can be just as effective.

Everyone has the right
To be equally treated.
We should all make sure
We can all be properly seated.
