(If you don’t welcome sinners, all you have are empty pews!)
I saw a sign on the church marquis.
It said, “Sinners Welcome, All enter free!”
But when a poor beggar stood at the church door,
He was told to clean up, just a little bit more.
We just swept up; you’ll dirty our floor.
Sinners Welcome, All enter free.
But we don’t have time to clean up your debris.
And when a lady spoke up about different opinions,
She was told to go away by the church going minions.
We don’t want your kind to sully our dominion.
Sinners Welcome, All enter free.
But we won’t have discussions unless you agree.
Next came a sick man with the shakes and a cough.
He was shunned by all, and turned away with a scoff.
Please come back when your well; but for now, be off!
Sinners Welcome, All enter free.
But we can’t take care of your bad malady.
Then came a convicted felon to pray;
He just wanted a place to wash his sins away.
He looked up towards heaven, instead of the fray.
And this is what the Lord had to say!
Sinners Welcome, All enter free;
Those who are poor, or who are just a trainee.
Sinners Welcome, All enter free;
Those who can’t possibly bend on one knee.
Sinners Welcome, All enter free;
Anyone who freely searches for me.
Sinners Welcome, All enter free;
I’ll love you no matter who or how you should be.
During the Pandemic, they began to close the doors of churches to keep people safe. While I understand why they did this, I think that a churches’ doors should be open to all people at all times. And no one should turn people away for searching for comfort and truth.
