When the rain starts to pour and the wind starts to blow,
Stay right beside me, I won’t let you go.
Even if it should storm through the night,
I’ll be right beside you to calm all your fright.
Don’t worry and fret when you see lightening flash.
There is nothing to fear, for this too shall soon pass.
Don’t shiver and shake when you hear the Earth quake,
There is nothing to fear with a friend that is near.
Throughout my life I have had many pets! I love animals. When I was a teenager I had a sweet, but skittish, Golden Retriever named Honey. She was terribly afraid of thunderstorms. Honestly, I wasn’t too comfortable with them either. She would often hide under my wheelchair for protection from the storms that would occur daily in Florida summers. I would sit for hours stroking her head and back to keep her calm. The amazing thing was, that by calming her, it calmed me as well. And together, we got through those storms. I’m not so afraid of thunderstorms anymore. Helping others can often result in helping ourselves as well. She inspired this poem. Rest in Peace, my sweet Honey. And, thank you!
